Riddle #10

March 12th, 2007

I thought I’d add another one since its been a while.

I am the center of gravity, hold a capital situation in Vienna, and as I am foremost in every victory, am allowed by all to be invaluable. Though I am invisible, I am clearly seen in the midst of a river. I could name three who are in love with me and have three associates in vice. It is vain that you seek me for I have long been in heaven yet even now lie embalmed in the grave. What am I?

Riddle #9

March 12th, 2007

Its been a long time but I figured I’d post another riddle.

What am I?

2007 Our Year

January 20th, 2007

Happy New Year,

Last year has come and gone, and things have been put in place to make this a great year for me. I have set some high goals for myself, and you guys should do the same. Not because I said so, but because we all want more out of life.

Success means different things to each of us. They say ,if you are truly happy doing what you are doing you are a success. I say if you are happy doing what you set out to do,  than you are a success. Always keep working towards your goal, what ever that may be. It’s not the money, cars, house or title. It’s about being truly content.

Now with all that being said, you can always set some new goals and make changes in your life. and that is where I am now. My goal was to provide for my kids to be there in their lives, and hopefully have something to do with how they turn out.

Being a Hippie, the drive to make the large income was not the thing that motivated me. I know some of you wish it did :)  Just keeping us together as a family and giving you guys the education to succeed was my goal.

Now new goals our being set by Harry Hippie, and I look forward to each day getting closer to each one.

Have a great year you guys!

Dad

Happy Holidays

December 22nd, 2006

I would like to wish all, the happiest of  Holidays. Even though we may not be together, you guys are never out of my heart and mind.

Make the Holidays what you wish them to be, and not what the marketing  departments of Walmart, Best Buy, Toys R Us, etc., etc., would have you make it.

In other words do not get caught up in the buying frenzy.  Do not stress out ( like some one we know). I agree with Gram and that “your” birthday is the day that we should go out, and show you appreciate your  family. Xmas is for kids. Not everybody that might be related to you or that you may have come into contact with during the year.

I’m not saying don’t buy gifts. I just would advise not to worry and not to over spend.

Just dear o Dad rambling on.

Isaiah’s trip to the ER

October 28th, 2006

Osaro went to the ER this morning. He had a temp of 103.5. He had blood drawn and IV’s put in, urine tents over his privates.  Let’s just say he was NOT a happy camper. But Osaro is feeling better now. He still is a little lethargic and cranky and not eating well. Yet, his temp is down.

Mommy & Daddy are sleeping in shifts cause Isaiah only sleeps in 20-40 min increments. And it is the end of Mommy’s grading qtr. So STRESS is the word of the weekend.

Check the pics of Osaro in the hospital.

Isaiah

October 26th, 2006

Isaiah has two NEW teeth coming in!! They are at the top of his mouth and he is NOT very happy about it ( xcept when it comes to eating). He will not let the parents feed him anymore. He must feed himself.   He is a big boy!! See the new pics.   Love Ya!!!  WHO DEY!!!!

Osaro’s last Doc. Appt.

October 10th, 2006

Osaro had another doctors appointment today. He weighs 19 and 3/4 lbs. and is 30 inches tall. The doc said his weight is in the 50th percentile and his height is in the 97th percentile. Osaro also had a couple of shots today, and was not to happy about it.

Oh yea, his top two front teeth are comming in as well, making him a cranky little sucker.

Major Taylor

September 11th, 2006

If not for dad, I probably would not have heard of Major Taylor in my early youth - I can’t recall hearing his name on anyone else’s lips until I worked in a bike shop in my twenties (which I’ll call my “late youth”).

Major Taylor, if you don’t know, “was the second black world champion athlete in any sport (the first was bantamweight boxer George Dixon in 1891)” - having won 7 championships by 1898, and the world championship in the one-mile sprint in 1899. He was the fastest sprint cyclist of his time.

As you can imagine, he faced a lot of opposition to his participation in the sport, especially growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana. Taylor moved to Worcester (pronounced “Wooster”) Massachusetts in his late teens for more opportunities to advance his racing career, but even then he obviously was stung with racism many times, and wasn’t allowed to compete in many races in the American South.

The reason I came to remember Major Taylor recently is that I was looking for some longer rides to do this fall, and I found one called “The Major Taylor Century”. Immediately upon seeing the name, I was intrigued - a popular event honoring a black hero? In New England? I wasn’t aware that Taylor called Worcester home for most of his life, certainly his professional life. Worcester is about an hour from me, located in Central Massachusetts between my home and Boston. Anyway, come to find out the locals in Worcester are proud to be home to Major Taylor, and are erecting a statue in his honor, promote the cycling event every year, and have a non-profit org that educates the public about Taylor’s life and legacy their site is at www.majortaylorassociation.org. And who but Dayton’s own Edwin Moses is their National Honorary Chairman? The world is small, believe it.

I hope to be in shape to enjoy the century in Taylor’s name this September 24 (yikes! just 2 weeks!). If not, I’ll definitely go next year. Any partners out there?

When you go to the site, be sure to visit the “Friends” page to see all the orgs and individuals that support the association. Also, the photos of the most recent “George Street Bike Challenge” (a really steep hill where Taylor used to train) are nice to see. Maybe I can hump up that hill next year too.
